Valentine's Day

Before we had Sam, Peter and I always went to the same Vietnamese restaurant every Valentine's day. Now, we usually stay in (it's a hard night to get a sitter!), but we still have a great time because we get to spend it with our littlest Valentine:-)We had fondue for dinner. For those of you that haven't done this before, it's a lot of fun. You only cook one piece of food at a time, so it's a slow process, but it's delicious and relaxing. This was Sam's first fondue experience, and even though we had many items to choose from, his favorite was the mozzarella sticks. Since his mom and dad love them too - this was no surprise! We were going to rent a Redbox DVD, but there was nothing good to see AND we do that just about every weekend. So instead, we decided to play a little Trivial Pursuit. Sam was very helpful as he repeatedly moved our game board pieces around the board in which ever direction he pleased. He also caught on quickly to reading the cards. He would draw one out of the box, stare at it, and then "read" it in kiddo gibberish. Too cute. When we were searching for Trivial Pursuit in our game collection, we came across some old cassette tapes from when I was in middle school. These are "mixes" I made by recording songs off of the radio. We decided to put one in for kicks. We reminisced while listening to Under the Bridge, Bohemian Rapcity, Can You Take Me High Enough and a whole slew of sappy love songs that I apparently was pretty fond of back when I was thirteen. The funniest part of the evening was when C&C Music Factory's Everybody Dance Now blared from the cassette tape player, and Sam started doing this weird lip sync and dance routine. Enjoy!

We're still here!

It's been awhile since I've updated the blog. I started my student teaching two weeks ago, and it's been keeping me pretty busy. I'll write more in another post, but at my sister Candy's request, I thought I'd at least get a few pictures up because I know she checks every day waiting for something new:-)
Sam occasionally gets a time out now. It's actually pretty funny to watch. He will patiently wait with his nose in the corner without making a sound until we tell him his time out is over. Then we have a little talk about why he shouldn't hit the puppy or whatever the offense was, and then he always gives us a hug and a kiss before he goes on his merry way. Here he is after trying to climb onto the coffee table. He is definitely more toddler and less baby every day.

Chores for Sam?

So, it goes like this....I'm in the living room, folding laundry. Sam is playing. He wanders into the kitchen, which he does often, though he usually comes back because there's not much cool to play with in there. But this time, he doesn't come back. Instead, I hear a familar sound. I rush into the kitchen to find that Sam has gone into the laundry room (I guess I left the door open), scooped out a scoop of dog food from Oscar's bag, and then put it into Oscar's dish without dropping a single morsel. Oscar was happily enjoying an extra meal. Sam was proudly standing there, watching Oscar eat, and still holding the measuring scoop. Maybe it's time to assign this to Sam as his daily chore:-)

LOST

There are few shows that Peter and I make an effort to watch. LOST gets this privilege. The season premiere is on TONIGHT! At the end of each season, out of frustration that it will be another eight to nine months before we will see another episode, we claim to not care any more about what might happen to Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Locke, etc. But then the previews for the season premiere begin, and we realize that we do care, and we WILL watch.

LOST - Tonight - 7 pm Central.
