Brrrr...

Since we woke up to 14 below today, with wind chills much, much colder than that, we decided to have a low key day in our warm, warm house. We had a nice "stick to your bones" kind of dinner, and I made enough baby food to last Sam for probably a good three weeks (!). I also made some homemade oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies while Peter and Sam enjoyed the ProBowl - way to go Adrian Peterson! Last weekend, when it was warmer, Oscar enjoyed some playtime outside in the snow...

This past Friday, we enjoyed a great dinner with John and Amber - thanks for having us over! Here is their cute little puppy, Finnigan. We are going to get him together with Oscar for a puppy play date sometime soon!

Sam is sleeping through the night now most nights - yeah! He really loves to go to our ECFE class, probably because there are so many toys different from those at home he plays with all the time. He still doesn't have any teeth yet, but I'm sure they will be coming soon. He reaches for someone now if he wants that person to hold him, which is pretty darn cute. He absolutely LOVES Oscar and giggles with delight when he sees him (see the video clip at bottom of post!).

Clapping and Splashing

We've been cooped up in the house a lot lately with the frigid weather, and Sam was getting a little restless. When it warmed up a few days ago, we had several outings to malls and stores just to get out and about. Sam absolutely loves being in his stroller because he can see everything going on around him. He is wide-eyed as he takes it all in. He has also learned to clap when he is happy or excited about something, which is pretty cool.Another new thing he loves to do is splash around in the bathtub. I'll have to catch it on video, but he can get both feet and both hands moving to make quite a splash AND quite the mess. Luckily water is pretty easy to clean up in the bathroom! We think we will start him with some swimming lessons at the Community Center in April because he seems to really love the water.

We woke up to find a coyote in our backyard the other morning. We've heard them a few times, but this is the first actual sighting. Hopefully we won't run across them when we have Oscar out for a walk! Less than two months to go before Sam's first airplane ride. We are definitely looking forward to a little break from winter, even if it is in April. Two to five inches of snow expected today, which will be nice to cover up the dirty, crunchy snow that sits out there right now.

Sam has officially refused his first food - cottage cheese. I don't know if it is the taste or the texture, but he makes quite the face. He doesn't spit it out, and he doesn't swallow it. He just keeps his mouth open and it sits on his tongue until I remove it for him. Maybe we'll try again in a week or two!

Congrats to the Giants!!!!

We had a great time with some friends last night as we cheered the Giants on to victory against the previously undefeated Patriots! Even though we don't let Sam watch television, it was unavoidable last night in a room with a big screen TV - and he LOVED watching the Superbowl:-)

A great week for friends

It's been a great week for getting in touch with friends! I've had the chance to talk to three college roommates - Sarah in California, Karine in Honduras, and Laura in London - all in the same week! It was great to catch up with all three of them - I miss you guys!

Trying to hide under the bed
He loves to cross his feet!
STAY WARM!!!

Another week has come and gone...

Not too much new to report this week. I've been sick with a cold, but luckily, Peter and Sam haven't caught it! Thanks to my parents for babysitting Sam last night while we went to Peter's holiday party for work. Here are some pictures and a video from the past week...

Sam has been asked to be a ring bearer in Auntie Amy's wedding this October!

Reading a story!
Just stretching...

Who needs toys when this box is so much fun?!

Happy Friday!

So, it looks like I've been neglecting the blog since 08 has arrived! Really, there just hasn't been much new to report. I took a look at what pics I could post this morning, and for some reason, the only ones we have are Sam wearing a couple different hats, literally. So, here you go...

I'm back at school now, and so far, things haven't been too busy, so it's nice to ease into it. Sam is working hard at crawling. He now knows to put his knees on the ground, but he still doesn't realize he should lift his head up, so he scoots along on his hands, knees, and forehead. We are pretty sure he will get some rug burns on his forehead if he doesn't figure this crawling thing out soon! It's pretty funny to watch. He can definitely get to where he wants to go though. Last night we were putting piles of toys about five feet away from him, and he would quickly manage to get to the toys each time. Unfortunately, in the pile of toys, there was always a nuk, which is the first thing he grabs and puts in his mouth. He loves that nuk, and it will be a hard habit to break, I'm sure! I'm still making most of his baby food, and so far, he has liked EVERYTHING! Sometimes he makes a funny face for the first bite or two, but he never refuses anything.

Last weekend we enjoyed a visit from Peter's parents before they headed down to Florida. Only 83 more days until we get to go down to visit them! They were able to babysit Sam on Friday, and Peter and I had the chance to go out to dinner with Beth and Marcel, and then join Shannon and friends for a birthday celebration. On Saturday we had a lot of fun with Candy and Jeremy as we ate pizza and played games for hours - Loaded Questions, Taboo, Cranium, AND Trivial Pursuit. We had a great time! Not much on the agenda for this weekend except lots of errands, but hopefully we'll get some video of Samuel in his crawling attempt to post on here. For now, here's a little video to start off your weekend...

Happy New Year!

Well, it is officially 2008! My how last year flew by...

We had one last Christmas celebration this past weekend, and now with January here, the holidays officially feel over. Peter will be back at work tomorrow, and I will be back at school tomorrow night. We did book some tickets to visit Peter's parents in Florida the first part of April, so we are very excited to see them and their new condo! April feels like a long way away though...

I actually had some time these past few days to finally read the book Peter got me for my birthday two months ago, A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, the author of Kite Runner. It was a good read for anyone looking for something new. We had a low key night at home for New Year's Eve, which was a welcome event after a busy Christmas week. Today we lounged for most of the day, and hit up the mall for just a little bit to get some time out of the house. While at the mall, Sam got to sit the regular way in his stroller for the first time instead of in his infant seat which sits on top of the stroller. He really seemed to like having more room and a good view of what was going on around him, and he caught the attention of quite a few people in the mall as he cooed and smiled at them. And, here's a pic of Oscar - he thinks he is the King of the House.

We wish you all a happy and healthy 2008!
